Codefest 2010
Department of Computer Engineering, IT-BHU shall be organizing its first ever completely Online Technical Festival in association with Adobe from 25th January to 21st March, 2010. We see this festival as an expansion of our aim to raise the level of technical activities amongst students, at a broader level. We believe this would not only help to improve the stature of our Department and the Institute but also encourage students to work on their technical skills from the very beginning.
The festival has been named as CodeFest and will be completely online with five different events testing students on Application Development, Algorithms, Programming & Logic and Mathematics. Visit http://www.itbhu.ac.in/codefest/ for more details.
The events are open for global participation and we are working hard to keep the level of the events upto international standards.
Computer Engineering Society & ACM IT-BHU Student Chapter are two groups in IT-BHU that have been constantly working from past few months to raise the level of Technical Activities in the field of Computing and Software Technologies.Several workshops, programming events and mock tests have been organized to inculcate the habit of showcasing the hidden talents and to develop a spirit of learning amongst students.
Many students of the Institute in the field of Computer Science have been phenomenal in achieving success on the National as well as the International level in the last year after the start of the two groups. Last year, 8 students from our institute were selected for Google Summer of Code 2009- Google’s flagship program to inculcate college students to contribute to open source- which consequently ranked ITBHU 9th worldwide in terms of selected students. Also, 2 students from ITBHU were ranked 34th and 60th nationally by Google Code Jam 2009- Google’s flagship online coding competition.
An event of this stature requires a sound financial infrastructure. We have estimated a minimum expenditure of INR 150,000 (approx USD 3250) – including prize money. With no financial support from the Department & no previous track record, we are positively hoping to get some financial assistance from all the IT-BHU Alumni out there. Any small contribution from you can certainly make a big difference!
Following is a brief description of the events:
- GumboRumble – The Flex Application Development Contest, with the co-ordination of Adobe
- Perplexed! – The Obscure Programming Contest
- Code Warrior – The hunt for complete Computer Geek
- Mathmania – An event based on Maths and Logic
